Welcome Welcome to Crop Watch. For the 2006/07 season, Syngenta has again teamed up with farm-link to provide a week-by-week photographic record and commentary on cereal crops, grown specifically by one of Northern Ireland's most proficient arable farmers. The winter barley to be featured is a crop of Pearl grown in a seven acre field at Broomhedge near Moira |

“This is the fifth year of the project and it has proven to be an important advisory aid and information source for cereal growers and students,” explained Raymond Hilman. “The fact that the weekly updates include both photographs and topical advice means that the information contained therein can be easily assimilated by those logging on to the site.” The field in question was sown out in Pearl winter barley (10-stones per acre) on September 23. It was sprayed seven days later with a pre emergent herbicide tank mix comprising Defy (active ingredient prosulfocarb) and Trifluralin The field, which has a medium loam soil, was previously in Spring Barley and potatoes.
