JPS confirm that demand for slurry pumps is set to expand
Efficient pumping is at the heart of every slurry management system. And no man is better placed to talk about developments about to take place within this sector than Rob Jackson, managing director of Lincolnshire-based Jackson Pumping Systems (JPS). The company has been the driving force behind the growth in popularity of DADO and a range of other pumping systems throughout the UK and Ireland.
Rob points to the ongoing changes in farm structure across the British Isles, the impact of last year's foot and mouth epidemic plus the current debate on Nitrate Vulnerable Zones (NVZ) as being the prime factor which will have an impact on the market for slurry pumping and spreading systems over the coming years.

"Once foot and mouth took a hold quite a number of farmers started to re-consider the animal health implications of contractors handling their slurry," said Rob.
"Allied to this there has been the growing recognition that the increasing scale of many farming operations can justify individual producers investing
in the likes of an umbilical slurry system."
Rob predicts that restrictions imposed on the timing of slurry and manure applications in the wake of NVZ changes will also have an impact on how livestock producers handle slurry and other effluents.
"In the first instance, farmers will be concerned as to whether they have sufficient slurry storage. And this will automatically lead them on to thinking about ways by which they can reduce the actual volumes they are actually having to deal with on a long term basis. And given that the current NVZ proposals will still allow producers to spread dirty water and other such liquids during the winter months, I can see a significant reawakening of interest in low rate irrigation-type systems."
Demand for low rate irrigation systems could soon be on the increase
As a company, JPS offers customers a wide range of equipment and expertise to ensure that every pumping challenge can be met. All of this is backed-up by 10 years' experience in every aspect of farm waste management and slurry pump design
JPS is the main distributor for the DADO range of pumps in the UK and Ireland and as such carries a large stock of pumps plus all relevant ancillary equipment at all times.
The company incorporates the AKAM range of low rate irrigation equipment, including packaged pumping station, underground and surface delivery mains and field dispersal equipment. JPS in collaboration with Frank W Murphy Ltd, has developed a wide range of engine management and controls for the operation of diesel pump sets for both fresh water irrigation, slurry and sludge injection.
